Who will be Student of the Year? Application until 31.12.2024

Who will be "Student of the Year 2025"? The German University Association (DHV) and the German Student Union (DSW) are organising the tenth award for student commitment. The prize money is 5,000 euros and the closing date for entries is 31 December 2024.

With this award, the DHV and DSW want to honour the student or team of students who show an outstanding commitment that goes beyond their academic achievements, which should be innovative and as unique as possible. There is no restriction on the way in which this is achieved. The prize will be awarded on 31 March 2025 at the "Gala of German Science" in Berlin. The prize money is donated by the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft.

Honoured commitment

"There are a pleasing number of the 2.9 million students who, in addition to their studies, are also involved in the state and society, politics and associations on a voluntary basis and are exemplary in their commitment to our community," explain DSW President Professor Dr Beate A. Schücking and DHV President Professor Dr Dr h.c. Lambert T. Koch. "The DHV and DSW want to make this commitment more visible with the 'Student of the Year' award by publicising a particularly positive example of student commitment."

Both award organisers are calling for candidates to be nominated for the award by the end of December 2024. The written nomination must include the name of the nominee, the university to which they belong, a justification outlining the special merit of the nominee and, if applicable, meaningful documents about the nominee's achievements. The award winner will be selected by an independent jury of six, with equal representation from the German Association of University Professors and Lecturers and the German Student Union.
