The following applies to all further or subsequent applications: Please mark the documents with your personal grant number! The grant number always has 13 digits. It can be found on the letterhead of the cover letter you receive from the Studierendenwerk or on the actual BAföG notification (see photo). Important: Only when we know whose documents we have, we can work on them quickly!

Going abroad with BAföG
During a semester abroad (study or compulsory internship), you may be entitled to receive "Auslands-BAföG". In this case, the responsibility changes to another office for education. Which office this is depends on your destination. You can find an overview at www.bafög.de. Applications for BAföG support abroad should be submitted as early as six months before the start of the stay abroad.
Online application
Since January 2016, students have had the option of completing their BAföG application online and submitting it electronically to the relevant office for educational support - for example, to the Studierendenwerk Dortmund. Please note: To submit the application online, you need an ID card with online ID function or a registered DE-Mail account. Submitting an application via the internet has no effect on the application being processed more quickly.
