The climate plate
From 2024, we will be introducing the "KlimaTeller" label on our menus. This will be awarded to a dish if it produces at least 50% fewerCO2eemissions than a comparable dish. This will allow our guests to choose their meals with climate-friendliness in mind. All information about the KlimaTeller at www.stwdo.de/nachhaltigkeit

Assistance for guests with disabilities
We offer guided assistance for visits to the main canteen if required. To make use of this service, you only need to come to the InfoPoint in the foyer. A tactile guidance system will take you directly there through the cafeteria foyer. The staff at the InfoPoint will report your visit to the kitchen management and accompany you to the lift. In the main canteen, you will then be welcomed by a service staff member who will read out the menu to you according to your needs, for example, guide you to the desired counter or help you carry your tray and find a seat. This service also applies to a visit to the Galerie on the North Campus.
Excellent vegan!
For the animal rights organisation PETA, the main canteen of the Studierendenwerk is one of the most vegan-friendly canteens in Germany. Due to its offer, the cafeteria has already received several awards in recent years, most recently in August 2023.
PETA writes: "With your range of vegan dishes, you offer all students and university staff the opportunity to eat healthy food that is free of animal suffering, even when away from home. In doing so, you show that aspects such as nutritional physiology, ecological compatibility, social justice and animal welfare can definitely be reconciled with the daily demands of running a university canteen. Your contribution to the topic of vegan nutrition offers inspiration and motivation for other university caterers as well as for other canteens that will hopefully follow your positive example. By awarding you 3 stars each for being one of the most vegan-friendly dining halls in Germany, we are honouring you for your commitment and hospitality. Thank you for your contribution to giving compassion and ethics a place in our society."
The animal rights organisation explains more information about the award criteria on the PETA website.
Children's place in the ,,Hauptmensa'' main canteen
Children are welcome in all our locations! In the main canteen, our little guests even have their own area, the "children's play corner". Colourful seating and a few toys are waiting for our youngest guests. The play corner is intended to give parents the chance to eat in peace. It is located in one of the five large window dormers of the main canteen. Signs and banners will guide you to the place. The tables around are reserved for families. High chairs are also available for the little ones.
Breastfeeding and nappy-changing room
You find the room across the infopoint in the foyer, underneath the main canteen. You can get the key for the room at the InfoPoint.
Free children's plate
Children up to the age of 10 eat for free in our canteens if the parent is a student, who eats their own meal. All information about this here.
Dictionary for visiting the canteen: German, English and Chinese
More than delicious! The "Illustrated Mensa Dictionary" accompanies three students on their daily journey through the Mensa. It explains food and drinks, the MensaCard, the list of ingredients and regional differences - with illustrations and vocabulary in three languages (German, English and Chinese). The dictionary was created by our umbrella organisation, the Deutsches Studierendenwerk, and is intended to help foreign students in particular find their way around the Mensa. It also presents the variety and quality of the canteen food.
