Directions to the Mensa building
The easiest way to get there by public transport is via the S-Bahn station "Dortmund Universität S". Then walk along the library across the Mensa bridge and you will reach the Mensa building in a few minutes. From the S-Bahn station, the S1 line runs approximately every 15 minutes to Dortmund main station and in the opposite direction to Solingen main station via Düsseldorf Airport. By bus, you can reach the North Campus by taking lines 445, 447 and 462 to the "Dortmund Universität S" stop, which is directly opposite the Mensa building. Individual timetable information is available on the homepage of the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr, as well as on the website of the Dortmunder Stadtwerke AG (DSW21).
By car, you can reach the Studierendenwerk via the motorway exits Dortmund-Eichlinghofen (A45) or the exits on the B1/A40 in Dortmund-Dorstfeld or Dortmund-Barop. The university is signposted at all exits. Follow the signs to Campus Nord. There are numerous parking spaces right next to the building, although these are quickly occupied during the semester.
There are several parking spaces on the Dortmund campus, increasingly also covered, e.g. under the Mensa bridge on Vogelpothsweg. Various cycle paths lead to the campus itself. The best way to plan your individual route is to use the NRW cycle route planner. By the way: you can also take your bike with you on the H-Bahn, provided that there is enough space and the bike can be safely parked in the designated places.
Lockers are available right here in the foyer of the Mensa building. A few metres further on, the AStA of the TU has a service station for cyclists in front of its office at Emil-Figge-Str. 50. The AStA also organises a bicycle self-help workshop at Campus Süd.
One of the landmarks of the TU Dortmund is the H-Bahn, which connects Campus North and South as well as the neighbouring Technology Park within a few minutes. You can reach the Studierendenwerk via the "Campus Nord" exit, directly at the bridge between the library and the refectory building at Vogelpothsweg 85.
The most important destinations in Germany and Europe can be reached quickly via Dortmund Airport. To get from the airport to the campus, it is advisable to take the "Airport Express" to Dortmund Central Station, where you can board the S-Bahn (see above). The journey takes about 40 minutes. A wider range of international flight connections is offered by Düsseldorf Airport, about 60 kilometres away, which can be reached directly by S-Bahn from the "Universität Dortmund" station, or - often faster - by train from Dortmund Central Station.
Orientation on the campus
Where do I find what? For better orientation in the city and on campus, the universities have published various maps:
