Emergency assistance: Help in everyday life
- Free canteen meals (so-called free tables)
- Subsidies for rent arrears and ancillary rental costs
- Arrears in health insurance contributions
- Support for payment of semester fees (re-registration, not first-time enrolment)
- Compensation for uncovered medical expenses
- Subsidy for the financing of an infant and small child's equipment
Assistance is only transferred directly to the creditors, i.e. to the landlord, health insurance company or utility company. As a rule, assistance is only granted to students who are successfully pursuing a degree course from the 3rd semester onwards. The assistance provided by the Studierendenwerk must improve the situation. Merely reducing the debt burden is not the aim of emergency assistance!
Please also note: The loss of part-time employment due to the corona pandemic alone does not constitute sufficient grounds for support. Since this situation will not change in the short term, we do not see any possibility of improving the situation with the limited resources of our emergency assistance. The guideline for the support of students in special circumstances provides detailed information about the offer.
The counselling and application process takes place via email. In it, please describe your specific situation and send your current certificate of study and grade transcript as a pdf document. If you have any queries, please include your telephone number.

Further support
In an emergency, it is not only the Studierendenwerk Dortmund that helps those seeking assistance. Various organisations around the university campus have developed services that offer concrete help in case of need. You can find more information on the topic on the respective websites:
