Paper bags and flags - Campus action against violence against women

Under the motto "Gewalt kommt mir nicht auf dem Campus!", Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, FH Südwestfalen, Studierendenwerk and TU Dortmund University are launching a joint campaign on their respective campuses to mark the International Day against Violence against Women on 25 November 2023. Around 15,000 printed paper bags will be on display in the cafeterias and canteens of the Studierendenwerk from 20 November to raise awareness of the issue. The print on the bags is not only intended to raise awareness, but also to offer real help: They feature an illustration depicting the "silent cry for help" - a sequence of finger movements that women can use in emergency

In addition to the illustrations, QR codes are printed on the fold of the bag, which lead to the websites of the cooperation partners. Here, interested parties can find further information about the campaign day and the initiatives in the fight against violence against women, as well as telephone numbers for advice centres and the Dortmund women's shelter.
<p

The bag was designed by Viola Dessin, who studies design at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts. She not only included graphics with the "Silent call for help", but also the sentence "No to violence against girls and women" in a total of thirteen languages.
<p

In addition, special flags in the same design as the bags, which draw attention to the issue of violence against women and girls, will be flying on the campuses of the cooperation partners for the first time around 25 November. These show the "Silent Call for Help" in large format. With their orange colour scheme, they join the global "Orange Your City" campaign.
