Increase in property tax leads to higher operating costs

With effect from 1 May 2025, we will have to adjust the operating costs for almost all of our approximately 2,800 tenants by €8.90. This is due to a tripling of property tax in 2025.

While the property tax burden in 2024 was still around 145,000 euros, the new notices show an amount of over 450,000 euros.

With the exception of the location in Soest, where no final decision has yet been made, all residential complexes are affected by the increase.

In total, the Studierendenwerk manages 11 halls of residence in Dortmund, two in Iserlohn and one each in Soest and Hagen. Students at TU Dortmund, FH Dortmund, FH Südwestfalen, FernUni Hagen and Folkwang University in Dortmund are entitled to reside in these residences.

Tenants will be contacted in the next few days and informed about the rent adjustment.
