Semester kick-off in the stadium - Welcome to your studies!

In the meantime, the first semester welcome for TU students in Dortmund's football stadium has become a real tradition. So this year, too, the new students experienced a successful start to their studies in a typical stadium atmosphere. After the cello quartet of the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra performed a somewhat different interpretation of the Metallica classic "Nothing else matters", Rector Manfred Bayer welcomed the more than 3,000 students in the stands.

Further words of welcome followed from representatives of the Dortmund Theatre, the Concert Hall and the AStA. Mayor Thomas Westphal sent his greeting into the stadium as a video message.

If it's tradition, then it's tradition: And so the stadium anthem "You'll never walk alone" rang out through the stadium - sung by opera house baritone Mandla Mndebele.

Johannes Zedel then welcomed the students and pointed out the important services provided by the Studierendenwerk. Last but not least, our raffle was not to be missed this year. The lucky winner this time was ex-BVB player Marcel Schmelzer, who drew three winners, each of whom received a voucher for one of our cultural events.

The Studierendenwerk Dortmund now wishes all first-year students a good start to their studies. As a social service provider on campus, our message is: We are by your side!

Experience has shown that questions about BAföG and student housing are at the centre of attention. Our advisors at the Service Centres and the InfoPoint will be happy to answer these questions. Both the Service Centres and the InfoPoint are located in the Mensa building on the North Campus.
